Why Bother Seeing the Swiss Family Tree House?

Name of Attraction:

Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse

Opening Date:

October 1971

Approximate Length:

8 – 10 Minutes

When visiting the Magic Kingdom, you will find the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse in Adventureland.  This attraction is themed after the 1960 film entitled Swiss Family Robinson. The movie told the story of a family which had been shipwrecked after their ship, the Swallow, on a South Seas island.  Using the wreckage from their ship, they were able to accommodate the 5 family members with bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a library.

The movie was wildly popular during its day so much so an attraction was added to the Magic Kingdom reenacting their Tree House.  Today, many people do not remember the movie but enjoy their time exploring the attraction.  Through there is rarely a queue to experience the attraction, there are sometimes waits to see the details of some of the rooms as the primary viewing space can be limited, depending on the room to be viewed.

The attraction itself includes many steps as you meander through the various rooms of the Treehouse.  The stairs wind this way and that in order to get around the various limbs of the tree.  Many appreciate the staging of the attraction as there are many details found within the movie.  Others appreciate the view of the Magic Kingdom from above.

You will find that the kitchen includes a set table, while the bedrooms look lived in.

It is done so well, in fact, that you feel as though the family may have just stepped out!

In the movie, the family must fight against a band of pirates.  If you are interested in finding out how the movie ends, the movie is available here.  Seeing the movies Disney used for creating attractions always makes the actual attraction that much more special!

This attraction is as special as you make it.  I have actually walked through this attraction and found it to be ah, whatever.  I have also walked through and really appreciated the details found within the attraction.  I find that if I mentally put myself into the position of the Robinson family, I love it!  In fact, I watched the movie and found that once I saw the movie and understood everything about the house and what the family had gone through, I understood!

Next time you are vacationing in Disney, be sure to give the attraction a look!  If you are careful, perhaps you can even spot this Hidden Mickey!Swiss Family Treehouse Hidden Mickey

I loved the book as a kid, and was so excited to see the treehouse when I was about 9 years old. My brother and I were trading stories about what we would do if we lived there – Definitely recommended for kids, though I don’t know how excited my parents were to see it.
