Top 5 Rides for Teens in Walt Disney World

Teenagers in Walt Disney World

My son in Walt Disney World

I am the proud mother of a 14 year old son. He has been to Walt Disney World numerous times since he was a little boy . I am fortunate enough that my teenager isn’t one of those that is too cool to wear Mickey ears and walk around with the family. He still gets character autographs and trades pins. I am pretty sure he is the only one in my family that truly shares my love of Disney. He is such a trooper that this past visit he even wore matching applique’ Star Wars shirts with his six year old sister. Man, I love this kid!

When I asked him to list his top five rides in order, it didn’t take him long to respond. Naturally, his tastes have changed some over the years. However, his number one ride hasn’t changed a bit since he first rode it at age 6!

#5 - Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

#5 – Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

5.   Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.  Big Thunder Mountain is located in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom. According to him “This ride is a baby coaster. While it isn’t thrilling, it is a standard coaster with turns, drops and bumps. After you ride it a few times it gets a bit boring” He recommends this as a roller coaster for first timers. I absolutely agree. You must be 40 inches to ride so typically your average four and five years old should be good to go. My daughter started riding when she was four and we couldn’t get her off of it. This ride tops my favorites also and to me it never gets boring!

#4 - Kali River Rapids

#4 – Kali River Rapids

4. Kali River Rapids. The Kali River Rapids can be found in Asia in the Animal Kingdom. According to my son, “This is an awesome thrill ride where someone is going to get wet! How much better can it get than riding an awesome ride AND watching your parents strapped to their seat getting soaking wet?!” You must be 38 inches or taller to ride so again, most children ages 4 and up should have no problems. You may want to save this ride for the end of your day or make sure to pack a few ponchos! Just a little reminder to my son, parents aren’t the only ones that get wet, sometimes the children do! Remember that!!

#3 - Test Track

#3 – Test Track

3.  Test Track. Test Track is located in Future World in Epcot. According to my son, “This is AWESOME!! Hands down the best attraction in all of Epcot! You wait a long time to get on the ride and as soon as you get off you are ready to get back on!” You must be 40 inches or taller to ride Test Track. I must agree with my son, this ride is pretty awesome! I am not going to say it is my favorite Epcot attraction, however, it definitely tops the list!

#2- Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

#2- Expedition Everest Legend of the Forbidden Mountain

2.  Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.  Expedition Everest is located in Asia in Animal Kingdom. “This is one of the best coasters I have ever been on! You get to ride backwards while outside which is pretty awesome if you ask me. The Yeti doesn’t scare me, yet he does add to the suspense. This ride has drops, sharp turns, and really loud noises. It’s awesome!!” You must be 44 inches to ride this ride and let me go ahead and say this ride is  quite scary for some children. Teens and adults love it though.

#1- Rockin' Roller Coaster

#1- Rock ‘n’  Roller Coaster

1.  Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith can be found at the end of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood Studios. According to my son “This is the best roller coaster I have ever ridden! It doesn’t last long because you are going so crazy fast! I love the fact that there is loud rock music playing the entire time. At least I know some of the songs as my Mom is a huge Aerosmith fan. Anyway, this ride is AMAZING and every teen going to Disney World must ride it!”  You must be 48 inches to ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. I must agree with my son here. This is my favorite roller coaster in Disney World as well. Yes, I am a huge Aerosmith fan so this helps.

Honorable Mentions. Those attractions he thinks every teenager should experience while visiting Disney World  that didn’t top his list are:  Soarin’ (Epcot), Typhoon Lagoon’s Surf Pool (Typhoon Lagoon), Monster’s Inc. Laugh Floor (Magic Kingdom), Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom), and Toy Story Midway Mania! (Hollywood Studios).
