The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights in Hollywood Studios is a very popular attraction during the November – December season in Walt Disney World.  During the day, visitors of Hollywood Studios can only observe the lights carefully tacked up along the buildings on the Streets of America.  It is during this time that true admirers can see the amount of patience it must have taken to create the magnificent, glowing attraction.

However, once the sun begins to set, guests come to admire the lights in all of their glory.  The amount of lights in this attraction is nearly overwhelming as you walk around the corner from The Writers’ Stop toward the Streets of America.  Many guests just stop short after approaching the Streets of America in hopes that they can take in all of the joys of The Spectacle.

Hidden Mickeys  If you enjoy finding Hidden Mickeys, be sure to find a Cast Member to find out how many Hidden Mickeys are found in The Spectacle for the year.  Each year the number changes, so be sure to ask so you can find them all.  Should you have trouble finding them, you can ask for assistance from a Cast Member.  They often spend time helping guests locate one difficult to spot.

If you are interested in finding Hidden Mickeys, find these two books by the publishing company, The Intrepid Traveler, under these titles: Hidden Mickeys and Disneyland’s Hidden Mickeys by Steven Barrett.

History – When going to visit this attraction, it is worth knowing the story that lead to the exhibit being in Orlando.  The Osborne family began their exhibit of lights in Arkansas.  Mr. Osborne began adding the lights to his home for his 6-year-old daughter.  As the years progressed, he continued to improve the exhibit annually with more features and lights.  To aid the display, the Osborne Family even purchased two of the adjacent properties.  Year into the fun, the family had over 3 Million lights on display.  The display lasted for 35 days per year during the Christmas season from sundown to midnight.  People from all over traveled to see the lights, causing much traffic and congestion.  Neighbors grew tired of the chaos and filed an injuction to close the display.  The court case brought about national attention.  During this time, Disney contacted the Osbornes requesting that the display be brought to Orlando.  The Osbornes, also Disney fan, decided to take Disney up on their offer.  In 1995, the display was added to Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios).

Updates – Since it was introduced, the display continues to get bigger and better.  Disney added the above mentioned Hidden Mickeys.  “Snow” has been added to put guests into the holiday spirit throughout the Streets of America.  The lights have now been changed for LED lights to help the park be more dazzling on a budget:)
