The Haunted Mansion Explained and Hiding Place for Ring

If you have visited the Magic Kingdom, chances are you have visited the Haunted Mansion attraction.  But as you well know, Disney loves a good story and here is the story of the Haunted Mansion:

The Story of the Haunted Mansion

Many years ago, Master Gracey and Emily were engaged.  However, Madame Leota was also in love with Master Gracey. Madame Leota believed that if Emily was killed there was a possibility that Master Gracey would then fall in love with her and they could instead get married.  On Master Gracey and Emily’s wedding day, Leota killed Emily and put her body in a trunk.  That trunk was put in the attic of the mansion.  Later, Master Gracey was so distraught over Emily’s death that he hung himself.  Madame Leota was left to haunt the mansion after she died of old age.

The Story of the Ring

Many years ago, the exit included turnstyles for the Haunted Mansion.  Disney soon removed those and simply sawed off the piece which secured it to the ground.  What remained after was a scar on the ground which resembled a ring with a rectangle stone as follows:

As this spot was found by Disney fans, many different stories were made up as to why the ring was there.  Many speculated that Master Gracey thought his fiance had cheated on him and had thrown the ring out the window in rage.  Others thought it was thrown out the window after her death.

One day the space where the “ring” once was was paved and the ring was gone.  Fans were infuriated and wanted to have the ring back.  So when Disney Imagineers added the new interactive queue to the Haunted Mansion in 2011, they also added an “official” ring which looks like this:

The ring can now be found close to a trash can as you meander through the interactive queue.
