Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party 2013

Christmas party

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, also known as MVMCP is an after hours event in the Magic Kingdom that is held on special nights beginning November 8th through December 20th. Tickets went on sale back in May and they tend to sell out fairly quickly. Tickets purchased in advance run approximately $62 for ages 10 and up and $57 for ages 3-9. Tickets can be purchased by calling (407) WDISNEY (407-934-7639), or by clicking here. The Magic Kingdom closes to all non ticket holding guests and the party begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. and runs through 12:00 a.m. All guests to the party will be given special armbands which will allow you entry to the Magic Kingdom.

As soon as you enter the gates, make sure you sign up for the Text Message Updates throughout the party. The code will be printed on the map you are handed along with your arm band. Disney will send you text messages all throughout the party to inform you of the start times of various events so you never have to keep up with the time. Disney reminds you!

Characters will be signing autographs throughout the party at various locations printed on the maps handed out at the entrance. Please note that not all characters will be present at the party. There will be some rare characters at the party that you normally won’t find in the parks, so if you see their location, you may want to go ahead and get your spot in line. Don’t worry, Santa Claus will be there!

Some of the events at the party include “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas” Show which is held several times throughout the evening in Tomorrowland; “Celebrate The Season” Show which is held three times per party at the castle;   castle show

Dance Parties can be found at Woody’s Hootin’ Holiday Open House at the Diamond Horseshoe in Frontierland and a Jingle Dance and Play Party at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland.  Holiday Wishes Fireworks is a must-see fireworks show and it usually occurs around 9:30 p.m. Mickey’s Once Upon a Time Christmastime Parade starts in Frontierland and continues to Town Square. Make sure you get a good seat for this one! This is one of the highlights of the party! My advice is to enjoy the dance parties and the rides during the first parade and watch it the second time around when it is less crowded.

All throughout the party you will find complimentary treats of hot cocoa and snickerdoodle cookies at the designated locations listed on your map. cookiesDisney also provides a healthier snack of apple slices and apple juice for those interested.  Guests with food allergies or other dietary concerns may inform a Cast Member and you will be served cookies that are suited for your needs. The beverages are served in to-go cups for drinking while walking throughout the Magic Kingdom.

Make sure you catch the most exciting thing of all….SNOW on Main Street USA! For those of us who live in the deep south we rarely, if ever get to see snow. The only thing more magical than being at Walt Disney World over the holidays is to be there with snow!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_SYy0VOo98

Snow on Main Street

My advice for MVMCP first timers is to schedule a party that is not over a weekend if at all possible. Weekend parties are extremely busy as Orlando residents come into the parks for the party. We went to our first party on a Saturday and it was more crowded at the party than it was during the day! The second year we went during the week and it was smooth sailing!  Additionally, try to eat before you come to the party. Grabbing a quick bite to eat at your resort is always a good choice. There are so many fascinating things to see and do you aren’t going to want to stop to eat. We tried to have dinner at Cosmic Ray’s during the dance party one year. Big mistake, Big, Huge! You live and you learn.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is a must do at least once. There is nothing more magical than the Magic Kingdom at Christmas and belive me Disney rolls out the red carpet for this party!
