Exciting Ways to Prepare for Your Disney Vacation

Now that you have your Disney vacation planned, you and your family are so excited you just cannot wait the final days until you get to begin your Disney adventure.  To help you in your wait and become better prepared for your vacation, consider the following:

  1. If you are out of shape, you may want to SERIOUSLY consider taking up walking as a getting-ready-for-my-Disney-vacation activity.  The average Disney guest walks 7 miles PER day!  If you are not used to walking more than from your car to your office desk and back, a 7 mile a day “vacation” may not feel much like a vacation at all!If you do not have access to a treadmill, park far away from your destination.  Walk the steps.  Walk the halls in your home.  Walk!
  2. KEEN Women's Whisper Sandal,Dark Shadow/Ceramic,8 M USPurchase or consider which of your shoes are the best for your 7 miles per day.  I cannot count the number of time I have been walking through the parks with a skirt on and ugly tennis shoes and see someone (looking very nice) wearing HEELS.  I am completely stunned each time I see this.  I will say that in my many years of vacationing to Disney, hands down, my favorite shoes are those made by KEEN.  They may not be, in some instances, the cutest shoes, but they flat do the job.  I never have worn a pair yet that hurt my feet after wearing them for the ENTIRE day.  To search for your pair of Keen shoes, search here for the some of the best prices and selections!
  3. Start a Disney Fund.  This is a lot of fun for you and your entire family.  Add change to this fund.  If you are able to resist a stop at the Starbucks, add the money you would have otherwise spent to this fund.  Many find having a designated “Disney Fund” jar, bucket, etc help everyone get in the spirit of things.  Being able to see the money collect there in the jar can be a lot of fun!disney dollars
  4. Rent Disney movies.  This will help everyone remember all of the details of the movies as they are portrayed in the Disney attractions.  Movies can be rented from your local library, leaving the “Disney Fund” unhindered!
  5. Make Mickey Mouse shaped pancakes for breakfast.
  6. If you are traveling during a particular celebration, gather items to help you decorate your resort room.  For instance, if going to Disney during a birthday, pack balloons, streamers, gifts, etc.  During the holidays, many decorate their windows and doors!  This really is a lot of fun for everyone involved.
  7. Beef up on Disney knowledge.  Go ahead, pull up the park maps.  Print the maps off and run through the must ride attractions.  I love to circle the rides I “must” ride.  If you are traveling with a baby, learn where the Baby Care Centers are located.  If you are a frequent potty goer, learn where to find those.
  8. Purchase a Hidden Mickey book.  This will help you learn how to use the book before you travel to Disney.  Once at Disney, you and your family will have a wonderful time searching out the three circles all over the parks and resorts.
  9. Review the Special Events going on during your vacation time in Disney.
  10. Watch Youtube videos of the attractions.  This will no only get you excited for your vacation, but also help you prepare your children for rides you feel with be scary for them.  It will allow them to “ride” the ride from the safety of your home before experiencing it at the parks.

These are just a few of the great ways you can prepare for your Disney vacation.  If you have more to add to the list, please feel free to leave it in a comment!
