Currently Disney has eight deluxe resorts; Animal Kingdom Lodge, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, and Yacht Club. Deluxe resorts offer extraordinary service, amenities and are the closest to the theme parks.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a resort set on an African savannah with an up close view of more than 30 animals. There are 1293 guest rooms between Jambo House and Kidani Village. Categories include standard, pool, pool with bunk bed, savannah, savannah with bunk bed, standard club level, one bedroom suite club level, two bedroom suite club level, Royal Kuba Vice Presidential suite club level and Royal Asante Presidential suite club level. All rooms have a patio or balcony with two queen beds, one queen and bunk bed or one king bed.
Club Level guest receive personalized concierge service. The lounge includes a continental breakfast, midday snacks, afternoon tea and evening wine, hor d’oeuvres, cordials and desserts. Guests can enjoy Sunset Safari, which is available to concierge guest only. On the Sunset Safari, experience what it’s like on an African afternoon safari drive. Learn about the animals and architecture of the Lodge. End the experience with a multi-course meal at Jiko – The Cooking Place.
On-site recreation includes two pools with a slide, kid’s pool and water play area, whirlpool, health club, spa, recreation room, arcade, and outdoor firepit. Make sure to check out the animals at night. There will be a cast member with night vision goggles nightly. Also available is Simba’s Clubhouse, open from 4:30 pm – midnight. Cost is $11 per hour, per child and has a 2 hour minimum. It’s open to children ages 3-12 years old. In addition to games, videos and crafts; complimentary dinner is provided with options – peanut butter and jelly sandwich, chicken fingers, mini burger, hot dog, mac and cheese. Can’t bring outside food!
Dining options include The Mara – quick service open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; Boma – Flavors of Africa – open from breakfast and dinner with an African-inspired buffet; Sanaa – African/Indian-inspired table service with a view of the savanna; and Jiko – The Cooking Place – signature dining experience featuring African food. Lounges include Uzima Springs pool bar, Victoria Falls (overlooking Boma) and Cape Town Lounge and Wine Bar (located above Jiko).
Due to the location of the Animal Kingdom Lodge only bus transportation is available to the theme parks, water parks and Downtown Disney. For those with their own car, parking is free. However parking may not be close to your room so if this is a necessity asks when checking in to see if there is a room available close to parking.
