There was definitely not enough information about Star Wars! I want to let Alan Horn speak for himself: “I really wish I could tell you more. But there are dark forces and they are watching.”
But nevertheless, Disney’s D23 Expo has been just amazing. And here are some live-action movies that have been presented on Saturday:
That was a not anticipated surprise, as Angelina Jolie makes an entrance to talk about the movie and her role of the evil sorceress. In her own words: “Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I also was drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her. She had this elegance and grace, yet she was wonderfully, deliciously cruel.” We learned, the purpose of the film is to explain the events that turned Maleficent to the path of evil, hence offering a completely new perspective on this beloved Disney story. A new teaser was shown, with, as we might say, a little twist to the moment where Maleficent curses baby Aurora. While in the animated classic, Maleficent says the girl will die and the fairies weaken the curse, saying Auroa will only fall into a long and deep sleep, in the upcoming version, Maleficent herself just lets the princess fall into a death-like sleep. As for the cast, one can look forward to Sharlto Copley, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple and Lesley Manville. “Maleficent” will come to theaters on July 2nd, 2014.
Muppets Most Wanted
Shortly after the release of the first trailer, Disney offered Details about the new and long awaited Muppets movie. The entire gang is going on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, such as Berlin, Madrid and London. But of course, chaos is following the Muppets and they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime. “Muppets Most Wanted” will hit theaters March 21st, 2014. Take a look at the trailer:
Into The Woods
Sean Baily shares details with D23 guests about the musical, which will be produced by Marc Platt, Rob Marhsall, Jon DeLuca and Callum McDougall. The cast will include Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Emily Blunt and is slated for a December 2014 release.
Have you been following Amelia on Twitter, trying to uncover the truth behind all the stuff her grandfather left for her mum? Are you a fellow “Optimist”? It has been the most intricate, interactive and viral marketing campaign that Disney has ever rolled out to promote a movie. And this promotion will continue until the release of the movie in December 2014. At the expo, guests finally got to see a glimpse of the mysteries surrounding movie “Tomorrowland”, Walt’s optimistic fascination with the future. The “1952” box they used to tease the film the past months, has been pulled out, showing a photo of Walt Disney and Amelia Earhart, an issue of “Amazing Stories”, It’s a Small World blueprints revealing hidden plans under backlight and a mysterious disk labeled “A History of Tomorrowland” featuring a degraded animation hinting at great minds of the past coming together to form a secret society. The movie will be starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy and Thomas Robinson.
Saving Mr. Banks
I think it is safe to say that Disney fans all over the world are most excited for this year’s release of “Saving Mr. Bank”, a movie explaining the backstory of how Walt got the rights to bring Mary Poppins on screens. At the D23 Expo, guests could enjoy a sing-along performance of “Let’s go fly a kite”.
A first look at concept art and early screen tests for the live-action remake of “Cinderella” has been shown at the expo, however not a lot of details were shared.
We can also look forward to a 2014 release of a new Disneynature big-screen adventure called “Bears”. The movie shows a year in the life of a bear family with two impressionable young cubs learning life’s most important lessons. During the opening week in April (18th-24th) Disneynature will make a contribution to the National Park Foundation to protect wildlife and wild places across the National Park system.
To promote the upcoming Marvel Thor sequel, Tom Hiddlestone, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins took the stage. The movie will be released on November 8th, and deals with the God of Thunder teaming up with his treacherous brother Loki to defeat the dark elf Malekith and Algrim.
